Under the direction of the bureau’s electrical inspector supervisor, performs technical field inspections of public buildings to insure compliance with electrical standards of the Ohio Administrative code (OAC) & approved electrical specifications; inspects commercial & public buildings within the jurisdiction of the state; makes inspections of entire electrical systems & installations to insure the safety of residents, employees & frequenters of the structures; performs inspections with the contractors when needed during the course of building construction; occasionally assists in a training program to help contractors develop electrical knowledge; provides consultative services to local health officials to inform them of code requirements & safety practices; informs contractors of violations of electrical codes existing in their structure or plans; recommends changes necessary in order to meet the requirements of the code; offers assistance & advice for alleviating problems.

 

Prepares a detailed report (written or electronic) on each inspection performed for submission to the bureau office; itemizes all violations of the electrical code found on each site; maintains a file on each project; answers all correspondence concerning the electrical code and violations of it; submits itinerary report to the bureau each day; testifies at adjudication order hearings; attends training seminars in order to stay updated with the latest electrical safety standards; prepares weekly time sheets. Performs all related duties as required.

 

MUST HOLD VALID OHIO DRIVERS LICENSE

 Minimum Qualifications:
Certificate of competency as electrical safety inspector as issued by Board of Building Standards, per Section 3783.03 of Revised Code; valid driver's license.
 Major Worker Characteristics:
Knowledge of electrical safety guidelines & government regulations; employee training & development*; public relations*;electrical inspection practices & procedures*. Skill in electrical installation & inspection; operation of motor vehicle. Ability to understand system of mechanical procedures; define problems, collect technical data & determine violations of electrical codes; read & interpret building plans, electrical specifications & trade manuals; handle sensitive contacts & inquiries with public & government officials; prepare inspection reports & maintain accurate records.
